The Northern Cape Bodybuilding Classics were held in Kathu during the weekend of 27 May. Contestants worked very hard to compete at this specific competition. There was also some residents from Kathu who competed, Natasja Ras and her daughter Amory Ras, were some of the familiar faces on stage as well as Laurene Vermeulen.
There were different categories in which everyone competed. For some contestants, this was their very first bodybuilding competition. Everyone looked so good and one could really see that they worked out very hard to perform so well on stage.
In the men's section some of the older men performed amazingly, like Riaan Sadie and George Poolman. One couldn't believe how well built these men were and how good they look for their age groups.
Well done to everyone who took part in this competition, you are very hard working people to look up to.

Nthabiseng Kgoronyane, Ms South Africa National 2015, who also re-presented South Africa in Zimbab-we as a finalist for Top Model Africa 2017 is in London for a two-week stint.
She was a finalist to represent South Afri-ca at London and Paris for the Face of the Globe International Beauty Pageant 2017, however a month prior to the Global Finals in March 2017, the company hosting the beauty pageant was liquidated and the finals were cancelled.
Ms Kgoronyane decided to follow her dreams anyway, by going to London and participating in a few pageant training and activities to gain experience and to further her passion for modelling, beauty pageants and how to make a difference in her country and, most importantly, her community.
In September 2017 she will be accom-panying five young girls who participated in her beauty pageant called Little Miss Kuru-man in 2016. They will represent the North-ern Cape at the national finals of Miss Heri-tage South Africa 2017.
She aims at empowering children and youths through skills development in the art of modelling and also to make a difference through charity work.
Her motto in life is “Dare to dream and always take challenges and turn them into opportunities”.
She encourages parents to support their children's dreams as it is the greatest courage that allows one to develop and ultimately have a better future.

A six-team delegation led by Pro-fessor Abel Pienaar, including two students from the School of Nursing Science, North West University Mafikeng site, is extending their footprint for the de-gree course in Nursing Science in the Northern Cape. This is done in full colla-boration with the resident Nursing Educa-tion Institution, Henrietta Stockdale Col-lege.
The current visit to Northern Cape is two-pronged. Firstly, to recruit learners from high schools in this province and other inte-rested youth to study nursing at North West University, as scholarships through the Health and Welfare Seta (HWSETA) might be available in the Northern Cape.
Secondly, due to some districts previous-ly under the North-West province, the uni-versity still extends district placements to enhance clinical learning and teaching. This, according to the team, was fuelled last year by the #fees must fall campaign that put practicing students' lives in danger in Mafikeng.
This was surpassed on 25 December
2016 when Mr Ditshwele, a star student of NWU (Mafikeng) delivered a bouncing Christmas baby at the Tshwaragano Hos-pital. History was made, because Mr Dit-shwele was the first male candidate who walked away with the midwifery prize in his final year. He was also the first male de-greed nurse to deliver a baby at Tshwara-gano. This indeed strengthened the rela-tionship between the hospital and the NWU.
Hence, the need is to conduct an in-depth educational situational analysis for further accreditation purposes for the Northern Cape to become an authentic learning site for NWU. This will definitely enhance the health outcomes of the Northern Cape substantially.
The team honours the Northern Cape Department of Health for their continuous support. As a result the team is making strategic and consultative meetings throughout the province to ensure the programme is well articulated to both au-thorities and targeted prospective students in the Northern Cape.
