The SAPS National Golf Champ-ionships, a prestigious sporting ev-ent on the organisation's calendar of events, is taking place from Monday 05 February 2018 to Friday 09 February 2018.
Ten teams made up of the men and women in blue forming nine teams from the country's nine provinces, plus a team from the SAPS Head Office, will be braving the scorching Kalahari sun to be crowned SAPS National Champions team.
The teams are represented by both male and female SAPS mem-bers. Participation of women in this male dominated sport proves that women are capable of doing what-ever their male counterparts are ca-pable of doing.
During her keynote address, the NC MEC for Sport, Arts and Culture Bongiwe Mbinqo-Gigaba, stated that SAPS members who participate in sport become catalysts of change in both the workplace and in their communities. They should be the change agents and drivers who promote social cohesion and nation building. She also reiterated her department's commitment to sup-porting sports in the province.
The dignitaries, Lieutenant Gen-eral Shivuri and MEC Mbinqo-Giga-ba, together with the Deputy Provin-cial Commissioners, Major General de Waal and Major General Otola, officially declared the competition open after teeing off on the pristine golf course.
The closing event will be held on Saturday 10 February 2018 during which the SAPS national team will be announced.
