It was a rainy Saturday noon on 18 February 2017 when three teams from Kathu converged at Sishen sports ground to fight for the R 1 500 cash prize. The first two teams that opened the tournament were Arsenal F.C from Mapoteng against Kathu FC from Siyathemba. Arsenal FC humiliated the visitors by a whipping 5-2 defeat. Due to the rules of the tournament the Mapoteng giants were automatically placed in the finals and Kathu FC were to exchange blows with Group 5 FC. The two teams played 2 all draw that led to the penalty shoot out, where Kathu FC was knocked off by 5-4. Arsenal FC anticipated that it was going to be a walk in the park for them against another visitor Group 5 FC but they proved that they (Arsenal) had to climb a very steep slope. The results of the final was 1-0 to Arsenal FC and they managed to walk away with the cash prize of R 1 500. The chairman of the Mapoteng giants said he is very proud of the way his boys played, but admitted that they still have to correct one or two things in the team. The team was formed in 2010, but has not produced any professional player who participated in one of the local major leagues. The guns of London have been struggling to secure a sponsorship from big companies around Kathu, but they are adamant that things will fall into place when the time is right.
