On Saturday 23 September, Kathu joined the international parkrun family. Parkrun was started 13 years ago in London at Bushy Park by a South Afri-can from Potchefstroom, Paul Sinton-He-witt. He was awarded the Commander of Bri-tish Empire (CBE) medal, by the Queen, for starting this world-wide event.
Parkrun worldwide is always 5km, always on a Saturday and always starts at eight in the morning no matter where in the world you are, except for our home town Kathu. Kathu has a summer time (07:00) and winter time (08:00) because of our extreme weather. It is strongly advised to register online at www.parkrun .co.za to get your own barcode which is your personal passport. Every time you run, walk or participate, it gets scanned and recorded no matter where in the world you are. There are set milestones to accumulate and achie-ve. Collect your different coloured shirts, caps and certificates for every goal achieved. Parkrun is an initiative to improve health, build friendships and to bring a community
together. Get your tekkies on and see you at our next parkrun, which will take place every Sa-turday at Kathu, at the Eskom Ferrum Substation, just off the N14 route on the R380 Deben /Hotazel road, next to the Late-gan Dam. As from next Saturday the summer time of 07:00 will commence.
Be very careful, it can be ad-dictive !
