Last weekend Sishen Gold Club hosted a 72 hole Northern Cape Amateur Open tournament. It is one of Golf RSA's order of merit tournaments. Golfers travelled from over the country to play in the event. They had a very strong field attending where 26 of the 57 player's handicaps ranged between scratch to +5. In the first round the players' teed off on Friday afternoon in great weather condi-tions. Young Yurav Premlall kicked off with a low round of 65 gross followed by Matt Saulez who shot a 67 and defending cham-pion Therion Nel came in with a good round of 70. One of our local golfers entered a round of 70 to end the day in tied fourth position.
Saturday presented new challenges with the course set up on the championship tees and windy conditions made it difficult for the players, which resulted in a few low rounds
being played. The leaders struggled which led to a change on the leadership board. Therion Nel from Free State shot a low 68 to see him take the lead after three rounds.
Sunday morning brought about more challenges and more golfers struggle to tame the course and the majestic trees but this did not deter Matt Saulez who shot an excellent round of 67 which put him back into the third position. Young Casey Jarvis shot a great round of 69 to give him the second position. With a level round of 72 defending champion Therion Nel claimed victory to successfully defend his title. Well done gentlemen!
A big thank you to the committee of Sishen Golf Club and KCC for the arrange-ments and wonderful course. Thanks also to Hermus Venter for his time and effort in doing the Live scoring and tee times. See you on the course, happy golfing!
